Who They're For and What They Solve
Specialty drywall covers any assembly that falls outside flat walls and flat ceilings. It includes curved and radius surfaces, fire-rated partitions, moisture-resistant and mold-resistant rooms, and architectural details like arches, soffits, and coffered ceilings. The board, the framing prep, and the finishing method all change from standard work.
Anyone building custom, remodeling an older home, or meeting a code requirement runs into it. Bathrooms and basements need the right moisture-rated board. Garages, stairwells, and shared walls need rated assemblies. Barrel ceilings, niches, and reveals need framing built to a template before a single sheet gets hung.
Done correctly, it disappears. The curve reads smooth, the seam stays invisible, the rated wall passes inspection, the wet room holds up for decades. Done with the wrong board or rushed framing, you get cracks within a year, mold behind the paint, or a red tag from the inspector.
Is It Time?
Most people find out the hard way. Here is what it looks like.
Our Services
Specialty drywall breaks into four distinct assembly types, and we build all four.
Arches, barrel vaults, radius walls, and rounded corners. We use flexible board, controlled wet-bending, or segmented framing depending on the bend radius your design calls for. Tight radii get kerfed framing and layered thin board so the surface reads as one continuous curve.
Bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, and basements need board matched to the exposure level. We install mold-resistant board, paperless board, and cement backer board where tile and water contact demand it, with taped joints and sealed penetrations that keep moisture out of the cavity.
Garage separations, stairwell enclosures, shared walls, and commercial partitions built to the listed assembly. Type X and Type C board, correct layer counts, rated joint treatment, and fire caulking at every penetration. Built to pass inspection the first time, documented for your file.
Arches, niches, soffits, coffered ceilings, floating shelves, and shadow reveals. This is where framing precision and Level 5 finishing matter most, because these surfaces sit at eye level under direct light and every imperfection shows. We template before we build.
Not sure which approach your situation needs? We assess first and recommend only what’s necessary, no upsells.
Why Homeowners Choose Mr. Local Services
Fifteen years focused on curved, rated, moisture-resistant, and architectural work. We finish to Level 5 per the GA-214 standard, which is the highest recognized finish grade in the trade.
Every estimate itemizes board type, framing prep hours, radius count, and finish level separately. You see exactly what drives the number before you approve anything.
Rated assemblies built to the published listing, documented for your inspector. Every specialty install carries a two-year warranty against cracking and seam failure.
On any radius, arch, or decorative detail, we build a sample section or template and get your approval first. You see the curve before it becomes permanent.

How It Works
Call 951-458-6466. We come out, measure the space, check framing, and identify the assembly type your project requires.
Within 48 hours you receive a written scope naming board type, prep work, finish level, and labor hours, with the price broken out by line.
For curves and decorative details, we template and get your sign-off. Then framing prep, board install, taping, and finishing proceed on the approved schedule.
We inspect under raking light with you, correct anything flagged, clean the site, and hand over your two-year warranty documentation.
Pricing
Specialty work costs more than flat drywall because the board, the prep, and the labor hours all increase. We would rather tell you the drivers up front than hide behind a vague quote.
What moves the price:
Typical ranges: Small arch or niche runs $600–$1,800. A single curved or radius wall runs $1,800–$5,500. Fire-rated garage or stairwell assemblies run $4–$9 per square foot depending on layer count. Full moisture-resistant bathroom assemblies run $1,400–$4,000.
Your written estimate itemizes all of it. Call 951-458-6466 for a free on-site assessment.
Bending board to a radius without cracking requires specific tooling, framing prep, and practice. Most production crews are built for flat, fast work
Expect roughly two to four times standard drywall pricing, driven by board type, framing prep hours, and finish level. Call 951-458-6466 for exact numbers.
Not when the framing is prepped correctly and the board is layered properly. Every specialty install we do carries a two-year crack and seam warranty.
Mold-resistant or paperless board for general wall surfaces, cement backer board anywhere tile meets direct water contact. We match board to actual exposure level.
Yes. We build to the published listed assembly with correct board type, layer count, rated joint treatment, and fire caulking, then document it for your inspector.
A single arch or niche runs two to four days including finishing. Full curved walls or rated assemblies typically run one to two weeks.
Often, yes. We assess the underlying cause first, because patching over a board-selection or framing failure only delays the same problem.
Tell us what you are building and we will tell you honestly what the assembly requires. Free on-site assessment, itemized written estimate within 48 hours, two-year warranty on every specialty install.
