Who They're For and What They Solve
A home mobility assessment is a structured walkthrough in which a certified specialist evaluates every space a person moves through and identifies what makes movement unsafe. We measure doorway widths, grab reach, step heights, floor surfaces, lighting, and transfer points, then document each finding against recognized accessibility standards rather than guesswork.
This service is for anyone whose mobility has changed. That includes older adults who have fallen or nearly fallen, people newly using a walker or wheelchair, families preparing a house before a hospital discharge, and adult children who visited and realized the home no longer fits the person living in it.
The assessment solves the hardest problem families face, which is not knowing where to start. Without it, money goes toward the wrong fixes while the real hazard stays untouched. Homes left unassessed after a first fall frequently see a second one, and second falls tend to be considerably worse.
Is It Time?
Families usually recognize at least one of these long before they call.
Our Services
Our assessment examines the full path a person travels through the home, using four evaluation methods.
We move through every occupied space and document hazards in order: flooring transitions, lighting levels, furniture placement, cord routing, and reach heights. This method builds the complete picture and is where most unexpected findings surface.
The bathroom produces more injuries than any other room. We evaluate tub and shower entry, seated transfer distance, toilet height, wet-surface traction, and whether the walls behind proposed grab bar locations contain framing capable of holding real load.
We measure riser heights, tread depth, handrail presence and graspability, landing space, and every elevation change at doorways. This is the right method when getting into and out of the home has become the primary difficulty.
We measure the actual walker or wheelchair in use against real doorway widths, hallway turns, and bathroom floor space. Generic standards miss this. Device-specific measurement catches the pinch points people run into daily.
Not sure which approach your situation needs? We assess first and recommend only what’s necessary, no upsells.
Why Homeowners Choose Mr. Local Services
The walkthrough and the written report cost nothing. You keep the report whether you hire us, hire someone else, or decide to wait.
We are CAPS-certified and state-licensed. Findings are measured against ADA and ANSI A117.1 reach and clearance standards, not personal opinion.
You receive a document ranking every finding as urgent, recommended, or optional, with cost ranges attached. Share it with siblings or a doctor.
The person living in the home walks it with us and tells us where they struggle. Their experience shapes every recommendation we make.

How It Works
Call 951-458-6466 and describe the situation. We schedule within 48 hours for hospital or rehab discharge cases.
A certified specialist spends roughly an hour in the home, measuring and documenting alongside the person who lives there.
Within two business days you receive your prioritized report: urgent, recommended, and optional findings with cost ranges for each.
You choose what to address and when. If you hire us, the report becomes the work scope. If not, it is still yours.
Pricing
The assessment itself is free. The walkthrough, the measurements, and the written prioritized report carry no charge and no obligation to purchase anything afterward.
What varies is the cost of the modifications we may recommend. Pricing depends on wall construction behind fixtures, whether framing or blocking must be added, the number of rooms involved, elevation change at entries, and the mobility aid being accommodated.
Typical ranges: professionally anchored grab bars run $150–$400 each installed. Handrails run $300–$900. Bathroom safety packages generally land between $1,200 and $4,500. Ramps vary widely with required slope and length.
Every recommendation arrives with its own range attached, so nothing about the numbers is a surprise.
Yes. The walkthrough and the written report cost nothing, and there is no obligation to buy any modification we recommend.
About one hour for a typical single-story home. Larger or multi-level homes may run closer to ninety minutes.
No. The report is yours regardless. Many families use it to gather comparison quotes, and that is completely fine with us.
Call 951-458-6466 and we will usually schedule within a week, or within 48 hours for discharge cases.
CAPS certification covers accessibility standards, load-bearing anchoring, and clearance requirements. A grab bar mounted into bare drywall will pull out under weight.
Most families act on the urgent items first, then work through the rest over a few months, and our fall prevention solutions page walks through the full range of fixes we install so you can see what a complete plan looks like.
Ideally yes. Their input consistently identifies the most useful findings, and the assessment works better as a conversation.
Stop guessing which changes matter. One free hour gives you a written, prioritized plan and a clear path forward.
